I want to start the final version of this article by saying that transitioning will always be costly. Life puts us the challenges, and some are more difficult. Sooner or later we realise that and, when looking it in retrospective, it seems incredible to have to put so much effort beyond the results.

With that said, I’ll start with the main subject of this post: the economic cost of transitioning.

In the preliminary versions of this post, I’ve commented you about my 4 years of saved receipts. What I haven’t told you is that I put them into a spreadsheet on summer, and I have some remarkable results. Everything is descriptive, since I’m not looking for statystical analysis (at least for now).

Nevertheless, I want to explain something from the methods: The saved receipts were for something I called “transition spending”. What kind of expense do I consider that way? I’m going to define it as “any transaction from which I can improve my transition process”. Going to eat outside isn’t a transition expense, for example. In the same way, I depreciated all of the supermarket transactions. There were things that qualify, but some don’t. The process was going to be eternal and I know I don’t have all the receipts.

Oh, and by the way: for my own existence I still using transition because I’m not afraid of the word. I do consider I passed from one state to another, something linked to the binarism I apply to myself. And it’s not bad. For anyone else, I use “transit”, I have to respect every existence.

Shall we begin?

2014: CLP $312.500.-

~ USD $450 by the time I write this post.

Since this was my beginning year, transition spending was focused on my psicotherapy (45%) and medical fees (55%). There’s no much to say, it was the beginning of everything and I had to focus on having a good foundation.

2015: CLP $1.401.635.-

~ USD $2000 by the time I write this post.

The breakdown for this year was the following:

Item Porcentaje
Beauty 1,43%
Exams 4,94%
Hormones 8,84%
Inhibitors 3,07%
Medical fees 8,56%
Psicotherapy 21,12%
Clothes and Accesories 18,57%
Shoes 3,28%
Injectables 12,35%
Hair removal 17,84%

I could afford some of this, but I started to gain some debt. During this year my hormones turned 11% more expensive, something that becomes even more unexplainable during the next year.

2016: $347.727.-

~ USD $500 by the time I write this post.
